I’ve lived in the UK for over 30 years and I have never seen a solar energy installation on a commercial property other than new office building projects. It’s not that they don’t exist because they do but the problems is that in Britain we are lagging seriously behind the rest of the world when it comes to using solar energy to power our business premises.

Offices, shops, factories, car parks, commercial and industrial roofs are all areas where you can be applying solar energy systems and should you produce more energy that you need then you can sell the excess energy back to your electric provider.
Just recently I was speaking to a customer who was having solar installations done at a holiday resort where he let 22 chalets. He also owned several caravan sites and was busy making plans to implement solar power to cover the entire site.
Don’t forget that solar panels don’t just go on roofs, they can be installed almost anywhere including walls, fields, dead space or any ground that get a decent bit of sunlight and is unshaded. You don’t even need direct sunlight and you will still get some power but clearly south facing installations generate the most power.
You also need to bear in mind that newer and better residential and business solar products are coming to the marketplace all the time and that grants may well be available in certain areas.
